Soil and Sacrament: A Conversation with Fred Bahnson & Fundraiser for the Front Range Farm Relief Fund

This was an evening of rich conversation, hosted by a Boulder-based Interfaith Coalition, exploring sustainability and the positive impacts which faith organizations have on local food systems.

Keynote speaker Fred Bahnson, author of Soil and Sacrament: A Spiritual Memoir of Food and Faith and director of the Food, Faith and Religious Leadership Initiative at Wake Forest School of Divinity, describes his visits to four different faith communities that embody the multilayered connections between spiritual and physical nourishment. From Trappist monks who pursue a life of contemplation while harvesting oyster mushrooms to a Jewish organic farm in the Berkshires, his talk takes you on a journey across four seasons and five gardens.

The forum also provided an opportunity to hear from our local food producers. Following the September floods, many farmers are struggling to recover, rebuild, and reseed. The Front Range Farm Relief Fund was present to share about their important work and accept donations to assist food producers who have experienced significant losses in crops, animal feed, infrastructure, soil fertility and revenue.

KGNU and The Collaborative Community recorded the event – it was broadcast on KGNU (88.5 FM) on January 23rd at 8:35am. You can listen to the audio online right here:
